Part of the Community Engagement Series #2 included a high school charette which took from October 13 through December of 2023. In the charrette, the project team coordinated with a selected social sciences teacher in Atascadero High School that made time in her classes for multiple Fridays for this project that resulted in a letter grade.
In the charrette, the project team coordinated with a selected social sciences teacher in Atascadero High School that made time in her classes for multiple Fridays for this project that resulted in a letter grade. The project team presented on the General Plan Update to the class periods, guided the students through their projects and provided examples of land-use alternatives they could consider for their own projects. The final project called for students to present to City Council members, Mayor Moreno, and city staff in small groups on changes to different placetypes and focus areas of the General Plan.
This charette asked 11th grade political science students to engage with the city’s general plan and provide their input and suggestions to the General Plan, including ways to propose changes with commercial recreation and touched on themes of safety and mobility.
